No occasion needed

The best letters show up on an ordinary Tuesday. Tell someone they matter, for no reason at all.

From a few details to a whole letter

These are the kinds of things you’d tell us. Then you read it over and make it sound like you.

  • rock climbing, painting, terrible puns
  • moved across the country for a new job
  • adventurous, honest, a great listener

Made-up people and details. Written with Incredible Letters.

Dear Maya,

I wanted to write you a letter for no reason except this: you are loved, and I don't say it enough.

I keep thinking about how brave you were to move across the country for your new job. That is a huge thing to do. You packed up your life and headed toward something new, and I am so proud of you. It takes an adventurous heart to do that, and yours has always been the kind that looks at a big wall and thinks, "I wonder what the view is like from the top." Maybe that is why you love rock climbing. You trust yourself to find the next handhold, and you keep going.

I admire how honest you are. When you tell me something, I know it is true, and that is a rare and precious thing. I also admire how well you listen. When I talk, you really hear me. You never make me feel rushed or silly. Talking with you feels like sitting in a warm room while the rain falls outside.

I love that you paint, too. You see the world in colors the rest of us walk right past, and then you share them. And yes, I even love your terrible puns. I groan every time, but secretly I save them up. Please never stop. The world needs more people who will risk a groan for a good laugh.

Even with miles between us now, I want you to know that you are never far from home. Think of me as a steady rope at the bottom of the wall, held tight and ready, no matter how high you climb. If the days feel big or lonely, you can lean on that. I am here, and I am on your side.

You are my sister, and nothing you do or don't do could change how much I love you. That love is simply yours, always.

Love, your big brother Ben
